Family Holidays in Morzine

Making the most of your holiday with the whole family….

featured in Activity reviews Author Alice Gregr, Morzine Reporter Updated

Morzine and the surrounding area is a haven for skiing in the winter and cycling in the summer, but the fun doesn’t stop here. It’s a perfect place for family holidays with activities for every age. If you’re planning to bring your children, they won’t be bored!

There are events to entertain them, things to do to satisfy their adventurous side and plenty of places to take them to refuel after a busy day exploring the region.

ACTIVITIES

From paragliding [or parapenting] to abseiling, canoeing to white water rafting – many places offer the chance for children to try out these adventurous activities as well as adults. They can also go pony trekking down the Dereche river, scale rocks at a number of via ferrata sights around the region and toboggan down the summer luge. Many of these are for slightly older children but don’t worry the younger ones certainly don’t get left out!

While the teenagers are finding their inner Tarzan at Indiana Park, the little ones can visit the public farm nearby and play on the swings and slides. There are adventure playgrounds, pedalos and day trips that are perfect for the under fives as well. As a family, you can learn how to make cheese at a dairy farm, try canyoning at a waterfall, go geocaching around the area, learn to be farmers in Les Gets and if you’re brave go paddling in the chilly waters of the lake at Montriond. You’ll be able to fill your days easily in the Portes Du Soleil.

EVENTS

The Portes du Soleil is a busy place, with events of all sorts taking place across the summer. The area comes to life when the motorbikers are in town for the Harley weekend, and music can be heard ringing out across the region on the weekend of the Fete De La Musique. These are perfect for the whole family. However, there are events, which cater especially for children that are well worth popping in your diary.

On Wednesdays between 2.30pm and 4pm, children aged 6-12 are invited to join in with lots of sporting activities at the Parc des Dereches. It’s free and running from the 8th of July. On Wednesdays between 4 and 5pm there’s a storytelling hour for children aged 3 and upwards at the Library in Morzine. On the 15th July, there’s a magic show in the main square in Morzine; a great night out for the whole family, starting at 6pm. From the 25th – 31st July, there’s a festival in the village dedicated entirely to children, entertainment, face painting and games. On Tuesdays from the 11th of July there’s a disco at L’opera for the older ones. No alcohol, no cigarettes, just music, dancing and teenagers.

CHILDCARE

If there are days when you want to do activities that the children can’t take part in, don’t worry, that doesn’t mean they can’t have fun too! There are loads of childcare companies in and around [rsename] who will look after your child either at your chalet or in various crèches. Whether you’re after a private nanny or a kids club where you can leave your child, the region has it all. Many of these companies will happily take your child to an activity that’s happening near by, perhaps on a horse drawn carriage ride, a trip to the carousel in the centre of Morzine, or even to the park by the river. While you’re hurtling down a slope, your children will be having just as much fun!

PLACES TO EAT

We all know, that eating out with Children can be traumatic, but in Morzine, it doesn’t have to be. There are plenty of restaurants that are child friendly, both in regards to menus and also spaces to play, run around and generally be kids! Le Tyrolien in central Morzine has a large sunny terrace and a small play area out the back it’s perfect for children and adults. Le Petit D as a children’s service at 7pm during peak times where children are allowed to eat together. That one’s based in the Hotel Dahu a little out of Morzine centre. Also popular is Le Tremplin restaurant at the bottom of the Pleney, it has a huge terrace area and plenty of space. So another firm favourite with families.

DOCTORS AND DENTISTS

Now if the worst happens and you have some kind of medical emergency with your little one, try not to panic. The Morzine medical centre has plenty of dentists and doctors on hand to help you out. “It’s the best place for tourists as you can just turn up and get an appointment”. You can contact them on 04 50 75 99 17. We hope you don’t need this little nugget of information!
