Families Descend on Morzine for a Weekend of Fun

France's busiest week of the summer hits the Portes du Soleil

Over the weekend, motorways across France were gridlocked with people travelling out of Paris on holiday, queues as long as 880km stretched across the country.

Many people were heading to the South of France and Spain, however this didn’t stop droves of people also piling into the Portes du Soleil. It was a busy weekend across the region and there was no shortage of entertainment for visitors, again showing why the PDS is the perfect place for a holiday.

A special festival for children in Morzine provided days of entertainment for families with games, bouncy castles and activities across the town. Based in the main square for a few days, the festival wanted to show that the area, although ideal for extreme sports, is also a great place to bring the whole family. The brand new, long awaited skate park in Morzine is now open for business and is already proving extremely popular with children, more advanced skate boarders and visitors to the resort. The official opening party for the skate park is the 8th August.

The weather on Saturday threatened to dampen the mood for visitors, however as Sunday showed it didn’t succeed. Lac Montriond was full of families swimming, having meals at local restaurants and testing out some of the water sports on offer at the adventure centre there. A little way up the road, the goat village was also heaving with people with cars backing up along nearby roads in search of a parking space. The Lindarets Art Festival also proved popular over the weekend with people visiting to share their love of music in the mountains! (This explains the group of singing accordionists nestled around picnic benches at Lac Montriond!)

If you missed this amazing weekend, don’t worry, next week looks just as good across the Portes du Soleil. There’s a mid week film night at the Lake and a firework festival there next Saturday. There’s a celebration of all things golf in Les Gets at the weekend and plenty of other things to tempt you in. We may have seen France’s busiest weekend of the summer, however the Portes du Soleil is just getting started.
