Hotel l'Aubergade Restaurant Review

A brand new menu, delicious food and a warm welcome

Morzine’s Hotel L’Aubergade steps up a gear and it’s more than working….

Looking for somewhere to eat where you can sit in the sun in the shadow of the mountains? Fancy a colourful menu that’s full of choice? Perhaps you’re a vegetarian and struggling to find somewhere to cater for you? Well. Look no further. The restaurant at Hotel L’Aubergade is exactly what you’re searching for.

Situated at the bottom of the Pleney slope the hotel has always been a firm favourite with tourists and locals but this year the team there have really stepped things up a gear. They’ve launched a new menu, they’re holding loads of special events and there’s a definite buzz about the place. The extensive menu provides something that’s not really available anywhere else in Morzine and as a vegetarian, I have to say it’s a much needed offering!

We arrived on a busy weekday lunchtime but the team went out of their way to welcome us. They were very keen to tell us about all the exciting things they’ve got going on this summer and it’s clear that they’re all really passionate about what they’re doing. This also shows in the quality of the food and the service, which was excellent. We sat at a beautiful shady table, which looked out across the fields towards Nyon. In the height of the midday heat it was a really cool and a very relaxing place to be. It’s also a great place to go if you have children because there’s a play area and plenty of space for them to run around whilst you eat your lunch.

It took us a while to choose what to have because the menu is so big. You can pick from a list of tapas dishes like calamari and the popular chorizo dish, a range of tasty burgers, and wraps, grilled meat, salads and lots of different side dishes. (The team insisted that the chips were pretty special and I have to say after a sneaky try of a few they weren’t wrong).

The menu is very reasonably priced as well with salads costing around 13€ and a burger about 12€. There’s also a daily Menu du Jour, which is 3 courses and a glass of wine for 15€. It was very tempting (with calamari as the starter and meatballs as the main) but it was just a little too big (and meaty!) for me on a hot summer lunchtime.

We opted for a hummus wrap and a salmon niçoise salad and it didn’t take long for the meals to arrive. Despite there being a lot of other people there and the team being very busy, the meals arrived promptly and were simply delicious. The friends we were with ordered a selection of the tapas dishes and they also said they were really good. I was treated to a salad, which was fresh and full of variety including eggs, olives, leaves, cheese and a tangy dressing. My friend’s wrap (along with a little pile of crisps) was, according to her, just right. She was pleased to find a vegetarian option that didn’t force cheese on her and she said the lemony flavour of the hummus was really special.

Having watched a number of other guests get their dinners it was clear to see that all of the food on the menu at the Aubergade is tasty and well made. There’s no doubt that I’ll be going back again soon to sample another of the many vegetarian dishes on offer. They are certainly tapping into a gap in the Morzine market and it’s more than welcome. The team say that once word gets out about their veggie choices, they’re hoping that more and more people will start to make the Aubergade their regular.

Throughout the summer season the Aubergade is running loads of special events to really get people interested in what they’re doing. There are film nights where popular old school films are shown on big screens in the garden, Tuesday evenings is the infamous “Bring your own meat BBQ” and on Sundays people from around Morzine pile into the restaurant for their popular taste of home: A Sunday Roast. There’s a cider and sausage festival this weekend and with local bands playing and businesses running stalls, it’s guaranteed to be a popular day.

I have to say, my lunch at the Aubergade was lovely. I felt very welcome; the food was great, the staff friendly, and the location really idyllic. I’ll be returning to try more of the menu soon (and hopefully one of the popular boozy milkshakes). I’m pleased to say that all the hard work seems to be paying off: Hotel L’Aubergade is going from strength to strength.
