Easter in Morzine
Welcome to another week of sunshine, skiing, après and oh…a little bit or rain! But don’t worry it won’t be around for long. There is still some great spring snow to be had up there and with Easter upon us, lots going on in town as well.
With the last of our family members coming out to see us last week before the end of the season, what better place in town to show them a good time than Tibetan Bar (located straight down from the Pleney Telecabin on the main strip). Along with happy hour from 4-6pm, this place really gets going after dinner where the owner Tony whips up a great party atmosphere, with plenty of dancing and singing late into the night. One recommendation, if you like your beer… order a Giraffe - a 2.5 litre tube of beer with its own tap!
If you’ve had enough of the beer in town though then why not try the Whisky tasting at Coup de Coeur wine bar. It backs onto the tourist office square so it is easy to find and there is plenty of outdoor seating for these sunnier days. It is €13 for any 4 whiskies and, believe me, they have a very large selection that would satisfy even the pickiest of connoisseurs. It was so good in fact that a friend of ours did it twice in one night and needless to say, had to be assisted home…but it was his birthday!
Our mountainside lunch recommendation for this week is located in La Village Du Chevre (Village of the Goats), which as mentioned in last weeks report is situated along the run heading from the Lindarets bowl down to Ardent. Restaurant and bar, La Chaudron, is on the right as you enter the village on the ski path and has a large outdoor terrace with plenty of lunch time sunshine. We went here with a large group and the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. The food is great and also reasonably priced, with a huge Savoyard omelette, chips and salad costing around €14. However many of our friends also tried the steak, veal and other meat dishes and were all impressed, insisting we return before their holiday was over.
As we mentioned in last week’s report, the Bass Camp Music Festival is currently taking place with various events around town until Friday 6th April. For more information check out their website. Le Tremplin is hosting a Basscamp after party every day this week from 4pm and it all leads up to the Basscamp Street Party on Friday from 4pm in the centre of town starting at the tourist office.
Also, in light of the warmer weather there are various après sessions popping up in various places around the resort. If you happen to be up in the Prodains area, Hotel Neige Roc has DJ Cshe this Thursday from 4pm and Alpage du Crot has a rooftop rave on Sunday from 3pm so definitely try not to miss that one.
With Easter fast approaching let’s check out what is happening in and around town over the coming week; there’s plenty for all the family to enjoy. Local chalet company, Chilly Powder, offer luxury catered holidays, with the added advantage of childcare facilities. So we asked them for their top tips on family friendly activities over Easter. Here are their recommendations:
"One activity definitely not to be missed is Morzine’s Easter egg hunt this Sunday, which will be held down at Le Parc des Dereches.
There is also lots of walking, shopping or, if there are a few of you, why not try the tree top adventure at Cascade Adventure Nyon with Fred and Mannu? (tel +33 683192118)
Husky rides are also an amazing way of seeing areas away from the pistes that you wouldn’t normally get to experience. Ask at the tourist office for more information.
Alternatively a Helicopter ride would be a sure way to thrill all the family. Especially with these amazing clear blue skies we've been experiencing lately. The cheapest price to see Avoriaz is 35.00 Euro per person or, if you have a little more cash in your pocket, then how about a tour of Mont Blanc for 190 Euro per person? Every Friday you can enter into the Fleche ski race up in Avoriaz. Register your entry by Thursday afternoon (cost is around 8 euros per person)."
Chilly Powder also advise lots of sun cream, lots of water to re-hydrate and sunglasses for children as the sun reflects off the snow and can lead to snow blindness.
