Deciding where to god on your very first holiday? Well, we know it can feel overwhelming. Stop the Google searching right now, because Morzine is the resort for you.

Here are five reasons why you should learn to ski in Morzine:

Why you should learn to ski in Morzine

Gentle nursery slopes

Choosing a resort with gentle terrain to learn on is absolutely key for learning how to ski. The last thing you want is to be working on your snow plough on too steep of a slope. Morzine has a great green slope at the bottom of Pleney where you should head first. There’s a covered magic carpet there, so you don’t have to worry about figuring out a drag lift right away. If you can stand up, you can get up the hill - seriously they’re that easy. Another great areas to learn is Super Morzine. It’s quite and calm here with nice easy green runs.

A quick trip from Geneva

Seriously this is a perk not to be overlooked. After you’ve packed all your equipment and gear, made it through the airport, and landed in Geneva, all you want to do is get to your chalet ASAP. Luckily Morzine is just 1hr 20min drive from Geneva. This is a quick (albeit still a tad long) trip that is much easier to handle than other resorts with 2hr drives, especially if you have little ones in tow.

Wide open blues

Once you master the nursery slopes, you’ll want to progress gradually up the piste difficulty. Morzine has great, wide open blues which are perfect for the next step up in your skiing. And with 24 blue runs in Morzine alone, you’ll have plenty of options to choose from. One of our favourite blue pistes in Morzine is Piste B. You can lap this a few times and not get bored of it. It’s also lined with trees, which makes it a good place to go when the weather is bad, as the trees provide some visibility. There are also a handful of other blue runs nearby you can tackle.

Perfect for tiny skiers

If you’re bringing the kids along for a first go, Morzine has plenty to keep them entertained and more importantly, show them that skiing is fun. Head to Les Gets to the two green runs at the top of Chavannes Express: Les Indiens and Les Trappeurs. Les Indiens has tipis, music, bumps and banks for the kids to enjoy. Les Trappeurs has animals lining the run, face-painting, treasure hunts, drawing contests and other games in the snow on Fridays and Sundays 10:30 to 15:00. Another fun spot is Chemin des Zou Zou. Just off of Pleney, this 2km run through the trees with lots of animal friends to meet in the trees (there may or may not be a unicorn to spot!)

High quality ski and snowboard tuition

Once you’ve determined where you want to learn to ski, getting high quality ski and snowboard instruction is essential to making your first time a good one. You want to ensure that your instructor knows the resort well, so that they’ll be sure to take you to the best areas on the hill for learning. It’s also great to have an instructor who is experienced in helping nervous beginners (or not-so-nervous ones!). It’s also key to look at what level of service is provided, as well as what reviews they have online. Start out alongside a professional at New Generation Ski & Snowboard School, and rest assured that their experienced, fun, and local instructors will get you up and skiing safely.
