What's on in Morzine March 2019

March is a fantastic month to come to Morzine, the sun is out, the snow is fantastic and the slopes are quieter. However, the calendar of events isn’t quieter at all, in fact March looks set to be one of busiest and best months of the season so far.

From free music festivals to some great sporting events, there’s so much to get involved in, and the skiing will be amazing too. We’ve been trailing the what’s ons and events listings to bring you the best of the best for March 2019.

It’s likely that you’re coming to Morzine to ski, board and generally explore the pistes. However, if you need a change or fancy exploring some of the other exciting things Morzine has to offer, then there are some great activities and events for the sporty amongst you.

If you love the snow and are equally fond of exercise then you’ll love a moonlit snowshoe walk through the trees in Morzine. This unique activity is available on the March 12th and includes an aperitif to help keep you warm. Snowshoeing is a great way of exploring some of the off pistes tracks and trails that you wouldn’t otherwise see. It’s also fantastic for the non skiers in your party.

Fancy yourself as a bit of a speed demon on the skis? Then the Portes du Soleil Champions Ski Race could be just the thing for you. Famous speed skiers from around the region are heading to the Nyon plateau on the March 31st to race on the giant slalom. It’s a great chance for children from local ski schools and clubs to meet and ski with professionals, and also a great opportunity for holidaymakers to test out just how good they are.

If you like skiing but are looking for something a little less competitive, then the charity ski event, Ski for Haiti may be more up your street. Taking place in Les Gets over the March 30th and 31st, you can challenge your friends and family in various different races and win prizes. There’s also a raffle and other fun and games to take part in.

Perhaps you’re feeling a little battered and bruised after too much skiing or perhaps, as well as hurtling around the pistes, you want to enjoy a little quiet time whilst you’re here. There are some great events taking place in March that will really help you relax and unwind.

Why not sign yourself up to one of a series of special yoga workshops that are taking place on March 11th and 13th. These sessions promise to “harmonise your body and mind” which I take to mean “help you switch off”. The sessions are taking place between 10:00 and 12:00 in the morning, so there’s still plenty of time for you to go skiing after if you want to. There are all sorts of other yoga sessions available in Morzine as well, if the timing of these workshops don’t work for you.

Morzine Pampers You is a special festival taking place in Morzine from the March 11th to 15th. It’s a week long calendar of events designed to make you feel relaxed, rejuvenated and completely spoilt. The whole event is taking place at the Palais des Sports in Morzine and includes yoga and meditation sessions, reflexology, workshops learning to make balms and massage oils and other therapy sessions.

Party vibes

If all of this talk of relaxing has made you fall asleep, then don’t worry, this next section should wake you up. March is also a great month for partying in Morzine, and this year we have loads to look forward to. From free music festivals to weekly apres sessions, you’ll always find somewhere to take yourself if you fancy a bit of a party.

Don’t forget that the March 17th is Saint Patrick’s Day, so there will be plenty going on in and around Morzine with an Irish feel to it. If you’re looking for the ideal place to go for that perfect pint of Guinness then look no further than the Dixie Bar. This Irish bar shows sport and has live music most days of the week. It’s home to the Dixie Mix, an Irish band who are sure to be playing over the weekend. We’re also told on good authority that you can even order a green pint on the slopes on St Paddy’s Day.

The popular free music festival Rock the Pistes is back. This amazing event is taking place from March 17th to 23rd this year, and promises to be another huge success. Free gigs pop up all over the slopes during the festival, with artists such as Rag’n’Bone Man and Caravan Palace performing in the past. This year includes performances from Charlie Winston, Hyphen Hyphen and Gaetan Roussel.

Immediately after Rock the Pistes is the fantastic Snowboxx festival in Avoriaz. This is a ticketed event, but has an incredible lineup this year including Craig David, Rudimental, Jax Jones and Danny Howard.

If you love music but aren’t overly keen on big festival style gigs, then the Spring Lounge Festival in Les Gets might be the perfect thing for you. From March 22nd to 31st, you’ll find a series of concerts and gigs taking place in bars and on the streets of Les Gets. There will be something for everyone, so it’s well worth exploring if you want to experience a bit of live music whilst you’re here.

As well as these fantastic one off festivals and events, there are always amazing apres parties going on in and around the bars of Morzine. Watch for regular performances from bands such as Squid Lips, Remedy Sounds, DJ Lady Eliza and plenty of other favourites.

Family activities

Morzine is a great place to come as a family, as well as for groups of friends. There is always loads going on, on and off the pistes, for you to get involved in. March is no exception.

If you head to the tourist office square in the centre of town, you’ll always find something happening that both children and adults will love. During March you’ll find circus workshops, sessions teaching you to build a log cabin and other fun, (and most importantly) free activities.

The local language school, Alpine French School, is running a fantastic social and cultural programme this winter meaning there are some fantastic activities for you to try especially if you’re looking to brush up your language skills whilst you’re here. You could go and have a traditional savoyard dinner with a local family, you could have a go at a French cookery lesson and you could even try a yoga session in French.
