Les Gets to open for Mountain Biking

Mont Chery Opening For Bikes This Weekend

featured in News & reviews Author Giles Towler, Morzine Reporter Updated

Following the success last year, the Les Gets tourist office has confirmed that Mont Chery will be opening this weekend for mountain bikers.

The current snowfall is not enough to open Mont Chery for skiers, although there will be slopes opening on the Chavannes side, so skiers will still be catered for. A similar scheme last year proved more popular than expected so it is no surprise that with the current conditions it’s being repeated.

The blue run “Piste des Biquettes” and the green run “Boucle De Clarines” will be open.

With the past couple of winters coming later than expected, it shows a willingness from the powers that be to adapt to the climactic conditions. Champery, on the Swiss side of the Portes Du Soleil, has also opened up some of its mountain bike runs. It allows some of the businesses on the pistes to open, it help to sell lift passes, it provides revenue for the businesses in town and most importantly it gives people more options for activities. It also stops the slopes that are open from becoming too busy, as some people will opt to ride bikes instead.

The current forecast suggests that there may be snow on the way around the 23rd December, but it is hard to be accurate so far in advance. For now it looks like the next few days will be sunny.

The snow in Avoriaz is holding out for now but could certainly do with a good dump.
