Les Gets bike park reopens for summer 2018

More downhill tracks opened in June

Following the opening of Mt. Chery for bikes the previous weekend, the Chavannes sector of Les Gets opened for business on June 2nd.

The Chavannes is usually the first downhill area of Les Gets to open for summer, opening just for weekends at the end of May before opening full time around mid June, but this year, due to the unusually high amount of snow that fell through the winter, it had not been possible to get the tracks ready in time. However, the tracks are now looking good, and were ready for action.

There weren’t too many queues for the lift and the tracks were not too busy. There are quite a few tracks to ride in the area, so riders tend to spread out a bit when they get off the lift. The great variety of tracks means that there is something for all ability levels as well.

From the bottom of the lift riders can look up the hill and see the preparations that are under way for Crankworx, with the huge slopestyle jumps taking shape. Crankworx will be taking place in Les Gets between the 20th and 24th of June. This will be the third year the event has stopped off in Les Gets, and hopefully it will feature the incredible weather of last year rather than the downpour of two years ago.

The weather for the past week in the area has been a real mix, with beautiful sunshine followed by heavy rainfall. Over the weekend it stayed mostly dry with some rain in the afternoon on Saturday and rain and hail on Sunday. The tracks were drying out throughout the day on Saturday and weren’t too muddy. The Pleney is due to open next weekend, June 9th, meaning that summer is really getting started.
