Spring tries to take control this week in Morzine

6-day weather forecast for the week of April 3rd, 2018

featured in News & reviews Author Rob Wood, Morzine Reporter Updated

After a largely unsettled week, the next few days will have a bit of everything in them, including some spring sunshine towards the end of the week.

The all-important, and currently very unpredictable, Jetstream starts the week pretty much directly above us (albeit 16kms up!) and this will lead to some breezy conditions for the early part of the week. These winds will likely cause some lift disruption at all elevations on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. By Thursday, the Jetstream will have shifted to a more “normal” position over Northern Europe so, hopefully, the week should end with some weather resembling something more spring-like.

A large area of low pressure the currently sits out in the Atlantic is approaching and will bring with it some unsettled weather and fronts in the early part of the week. Winds in the main will be southerly and it will feel a bit warmer than of late. With the shifting Jetstream and passing low fronts on Wednesday/Thursday, the end of the week should be more settled than the early part and Friday, Saturday and Sunday look like being positively spring-like.

Tuesday

A largely cloudy day with some snow flurries on and off all day. A freeze height of around 2500 metres, may lead to some light rain at lower elevations but hopefully nothing too much. Another windy day with continuing southerly winds at around 20kmph, so again some lift disruption is likely. Similar temperatures to Monday with afternoon highs of around +3ºC.

Wednesday

After a sunny start, clouds will soon build up and some snow showers are likely. These flurries will become more prolonged as the day goes on and around 10cm is possible by nightfall. Another windy day as the Jetstream remains above us with continuing southerly winds at around 25kmph, so again some initial lift disruption is likely. Thankfully, the winds should drop off mid-afternoon to around 10kmph as the Jetstream shifts north. A bit chillier with daytime resort highs of around -1ºC, although a fluctuating freeze height may bring some rain showers at lower elevations.

Thursday

Winds will have dropped to around 10kmph so there will, hopefully, be no more lift disruptions. Initial light snow should fizzle out by around 10:00, after which it should be a nice sunny spring day, so grab a deck chair in the afternoon sunshine. It will be chilly first thing, at around -5ºC but, by mid-afternoon, the mercury should reach a more spring-like +3ºC.

Friday

Probably a gloriously sunny spring day up on the hill, so grab your sun cream and a deck chair. Very light southerly winds at around 5kmph and with daytime highs of around +7ºC it should be a cracker. Some light cloud may build as the afternoon comes to an end but nothing significant enough to spoil what looks like being a lovely day.

Saturday

As the Jetstream sits well to the north by the end of the week, it really looks a lot more spring-like. Another sunny day with light southerly winds at around 8kmph and daytime highs of around +8ºC, it looks like another day for the sun cream and a deck chair.

Sunday

Increasingly spring-like conditions continue with daytime highs likely to be in positive double figures, potentially even +12ºC! Light winds will continue at around 7kmph and, with wall to wall sunshine likely, it should be an absolute cracker of a day. Get the SPF50 out!
