The Pleney cable car in Morzine is set to open early

Following the success of the early opening in Avoriaz last weekend, Morzine has announced that the Pleney lift will be opening this coming weekend, the 9th and 10th of December as part of the Morzine Winter Start Event.

Considering that the Pleney was not due to open till the 23rd of December, this shows just how much snow has already fallen in Morzine. The low temperatures have meant that the snow hasn’t melted and the snow cannons have been used to create even more, meaning that a good base has built up.

Only one piste is currently scheduled to open, Piste B, and this is reflected in the low lift pass price of 12€ for the day and 6€ for a return ticket for non-skiers and the lift will be open from 09:00 to 16:30. Beginners will be able to take advantage of the magic carpet at the summit of the Pleney as well.

Several lifts are opening in Les Gets, including the Chavannes lift as well as the Chavannes Express and La Croix chairlifts, the Mouille au Roy and Boule de Gomme button lifts and the Chavannes magic carpet. There will also be lifts open in Avoriaz, Chatel, Champery-Les Crosets, St Jean d'Aulps and Torgon. All in all, a great weekend in the Portes du Soleil ski area.

Heavy snowfall is currently forecast for Friday and Saturday so there could be some truly excellent conditions for the weekend. Things are certainly looking a lot more wintry in Morzine than they have for the past couple of Decembers and there is plenty to get excited about!
