World Cup Downhill in Champery and FISE in Avoriaz this weekend
by James Fisher | Ski Video Reporter | published 21-Jul-2010
It’s going to be a big weekend here in the Portes du Soleil with two big events taking place in the area.
After all the lycra and carbon fibre of the Tour de France it will be nice to see the other end of the bike world’s spectrum with both the FISE and World Downhill Championships coming to the Portes du Soleil.
The World Downhill Championships will be held this weekend, 24th-25th July, in Champery, Switzerland. The track has been closed for almost six weeks so that Ben Walker and the team of shapers can prepare it for the competition.

There are plenty of British riders to support this weekend; Gee and Rachael Atherton, Steve Peat and Brendan Fairclough should all be competing over the two days.
Access to the trackside is free and the public are welcome to stand by the side of the course.
Then in Avoriaz this weekend we have another visit from the F.I.S.E tour.
The International Festival of Extreme Sports made its first trip to Avoriaz last year after the success of the roof and slopestyle event. It’s a weekend of extreme sports with competitions and demonstrations from BMX and Freestyle motocross riders.
It looks like this year the roof top course will not be used and the competition will be carried out on a street course.
