Situated about an hour and a half from Geneva, Avoriaz and Morzine are the main areas of the French side of the Portes du Soleil area. Morzine was originally al small alpine farming village, and it has continued to develop into a modern alpine village whilst maintaining its village feel and sense of tradition.

Morzine is the largest settlement of Les Portes du Soleil, and is home to approximately 3000 residents. Although Morzine is at a relatively low 900 metres, a network of lifts reaches the panoramic Chamossière at 1800 mteres. Travelling to, from and around Morzine is a fairly straightforward affair, with easy access from Geneva airport via motorway and free public transport around town once you arrive.
