Morzine Neighbours Rally Round to Help Flooded Elderly Couple

Some good will amongst all the bedlam caused by the floods

The real impact of the recent flooding and rainfall is starting to emerge as families in and around Morzine and Avoriaz begin to assess the damage caused over the last few days. None more so than an elderly couple living on the road leading to Prodains.

Neighbours and friends have rallied round to help 81 year old Adele Invernizzi and her husband Louis whose home on the Route de Ardoisieres has been flooded and filled with over a meter of water. Their daughter, Sandra Richard, is leading the clean up operation and told us, "My mother has lived here her whole life and this has never happened. She's never seen it this bad."

Items including washing machines, tables, chairs and suitcases belonging to the Invernizzi family have been dragged out of the basement of the house and onto the lawn and covered, in the hope that they can be saved after a nearby stream burst its banks.

Further up the road, to the now somewhat deserted Prodains lift, other homes and chalets are also counting the cost. Pipes pumping water out of cellars have been put into many buildings and diggers are out trying to clear some of the damage.

Officials were at Mr and Mrs Invernizzi's home assessing the damage and working out if there's any further risk to their property and surrounding homes. Sandra says her parents are lucky and should be covered by insurance but say it's of course extremely upsetting for the couple.

Despite this Adele Invernizzi is in good spirits, she has a great community around her who have come together to help get them back on their feet.
