A 25 year old female snowboarder was reported missing on Saturday, which led to around 50 mountain rescue professionals being deployed to look for her.

They searched in vain from late afternoon to midnight, and it was discovered later that night that she was safe and well in a bar in Chatel.

Apparently she had opted to take the chairlift down at the end of the day, splitting from the rest of her group. Realising she was lost, and with no phone to call her friends, she flagged down a car and was picked up by an British person who then dropped her off in Chatel, a few kms from La Chapelle d'Abondance where she was staying.

It was only at 22.30 that she told the bar manager that she was lost, and the rescue teams were called off.
