This Christmas, it looks like Santa perhaps isn’t giving us the gift of snow. Christmas Week has arrived in the Portes Du Soleil, but everyone’s expectations have been turned upside down by the stubborn skies, which have simply refused to let the snow fall for skiing and snowboarding we wanted.

Some of you may have arrived at a luxurious chalet with family, or a self-catered apartment with friends, or perhaps you’re here for the season and worried how you’re going to keep yourself busy this week, let alone your guests!

Truth of the matter is that half the resorts in the Alps are dealing with the same disappointment, and we just happen to be in the resorts with bundles of activities and things to do and see. So here it is, the best guide to activities the Portes Du Soleil has to offer on Christmas Week!

Parc De Dereches

In anticipation of guests wishing to make the very best of the Christmas week, the Parc De Dereches has stepped to the challenge in great festive spirit! The complex is offering a ‘Pass Loisirs’ to accommodation providers for guests to enjoy the facilities with unlimited access all week. The indoor swimming pool is great place to get some exercise and keep the kids occupied, no to mention there’s a steam room and sauna for you adults to relax too. The covered ice rink in the Skoda Arena is also open to the public, where daytime and late night sessions offer a fantastic skating fun for everyone. Children must be 5 years of age, and ice skates and available for hire at the rink. Plus, the outdoor rink outside the Office du Tourisme in the centre of Morzine makes for a great little stop in the evening before having a bite to eat!

It doesn’t stop there either, the Parc de Dereches has also opened two tennis courts, as well as the equestrian centre to offer visitors the opportunity to enjoy horse-riding in the beauty of the Portes du Soleil. Talk to your tour operator or accommodation provider for details of the Pass Loisirs upon your arrival!

Walking

Lifts are open at Morzine Pleney, Morzine Nyon, Les Gets Mont Chery and Les Gets Chavannes for people who aren’t letting the lack of snow take away the sheer delight of being in the great outdoors. There are fantastic mountain walks to be enjoyed - just fill a fresh baguette for an easy, delicious lunchtime picnic to keep you going all day long.

Spas

Take the opportunity to relax and treat yourself and your loved ones to ultimate relaxation in one of the many luxurious spas in Morzine, where you can enjoy beauty and massage treatments, as well as sauna and hammam facilities. Take a look at our list of Day Spas here.

Indiana Ventures

As soon as the news of limited lift passes came in, the good folks at Indiana Ventures decided to re-open their popular summer activities. Join a guided walk to enjoy the fresh mountain air and plenty of exercise or go for a walk up in the trees on their adventure course of high ropes and obstacles for a thrilling activity for kids, little and big! If you fancy a battle showdown to remember, their outdoor laser game is definitely worth booking. (you do need to book in advance with this one.)

Christmas Markets

On Christmas Eve, the car park down by the central Carrefour and the Post Office in Morzine comes alive with some of the best offerings from the Haute Savoie Region. Everything from delicious cheeses, cured meats, gifts, homewares and furniture are available from the locals, from early morning until mid-afternoon.

Festivities in Les Gets

Santa Claus is coming to town, and will be staying in the enchanted forest in Les Gets from the 20th – 26th December to answer all the wishes of excited children who have been good this year! His elves will show you the way along the magical trail to meet Papa Noel himself in his grotto. Just arrive in time for guided tours starting from the Place de Lutins in central Les Gets that start on the hour from 10am – 8pm each day.

Christmas Fireworks

On Monday the 22nd, Les Gets will celebrate the festive season with and impressive firework display on the Perriers Piste, after which Christmas lanterns will be released into the sky. Perfect festive entertainment for the whole family! On Christmas Eve, the Pleney slope will be lit up in Morzine with yet another display of magical Christmas fireworks, for truly wonderful evening to see in Christmas Day.

Apres, Nightlife & Bars

Here in Morzine, there are numerous bars and clubs offering everything from a relaxing place to enjoy a glass or two, to a wild discotheque/club that keeps the party going until 5am! Just because the ski part is missing from the Apres Ski events this week doesn’t mean that Apres is cancelled. Le Tremplin in central Morzine will be offering its usual lively Basscamp Sessions from 4pm, while the popular Happy Hours Bar at the bottom of the Ardent bubble will be opening with a big launch party not to be missed from 3pm.

For pleasant, early evening drinks and live music – head to Beanies for a cocktail for two, or if beer is your drink of choice head to the Bec Jaune Brewery, where you can sample their own beers from their micro brewery alongside hearty pies, chicken wings or gourmet burgers.

Later on you can be sure to find music to dance to at Le Tibetan, Cavern, Café Chaud, L’Opera and Le Paradis. You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to a late night to remember (or not!).

Every day this week, we’ll give you a run down on the best events and activities happening in resort, so you can stop worrying and simply have a very merry Christmas!
