50 years of the Portes Du Soleil

It is a big occasion deserving of an equally big celebration, and everyone from guests to seasonnaires and locals are asked to come along a join in the biggest birthday party the Portes Du Soleil has ever seen.

Here are a few facts about the PDS which have led to it becoming a much-loved place by many to enjoy the great outdoors in the winter and summer seasons:

• It is one of the largest connected ski areas in the world
• It has over 650km of skiable piste
• 12 Swiss and French towns are interconnected within the Portes du Soleil region
• The Portes Du Soleil ski pass offers the best value for money per kilometre you ski

A bunch of activities are free to participate in all day long, including a treasure hunt for adventurers wishing to ski the area and win yet another free day pass, or if you’re feeling a little more leisurely a free apertif and live music is being offered at Col de Portes Du Soleil – accessible by the Mosettes lift over into Switzerland.

The main event begins at 16.30 at the Pleney lift in Morzine, where anyone can sign themselves up take part in the world record-breaking longest torch lit descent (the current record is 2854 people). Visit the PDS website to register for your place in the challenge, before collecting your torch from the ESF office. Spectators will be entertained with hot drinks, snacks and music at the bottom of the piste, before the party kicks of at 18.00 with a huge birthday fireworks display and a free concert in centre of Morzine.
