Winter Ski Train to Geneva

New route to provide easier access to Europe's ski resorts

featured in News & reviews Author Sophie Nicholson, Morzine Editor Updated

Getting to some ski resorts in France and Switzerland will be easier than ever this winter due to the new train service connecting London and Geneva. In the past, the route involved making complicated changes in Paris but now a mere platform change in Lille is set to be the only inconvenience.

The train journey from London's St Pancras to Geneva is expected to take just over 8 hours, leaving the UK at 06.57 and arriving into Geneva at 14.16. This means that skiers travelling onwards to resorts close to Geneva such as Chamonix, Morzine, Avoriaz should be in resort just in time for a bit of apres ski! The service will then stop in the main stations along the Rhone Valley giving easy access to the ski resorts in western Switzerland such as Verbier.

The first train is scheduled for the 22nd of December and will run every Saturday until the 13th of April. Prices for this first weekend are currently on sale for £339 per person return however if you’re flexible with your holiday dates and can travel mid-week you can pick up a return ticket from as cheap as £114 per person.

Check out the 'Top Gear' style plane vs train race to the Alps video above put together by our friends at SnowCarbon who are dedicated to getting more people to take the train instead of a plane to the mountains.
