The Morznet.Com Morzine & Les Gets Après Ski Report
| It all started with our Snow Report, now we have employed our own 'Apres-ski Instructor' with the latest round of the the goings on 'off the piste' (or should that be 'on the piste'!) in the resort's bars and clubs, as well as other interesting venues. Events, celebrities, paparazzis, glam, glitter, big nights out and the hangover- we will endeavour to be reporting them here, if we can remember what happened... |

That's it from us for another season of apres ski.
You can check out the archive reports to see what we got up to over the winter, but we're off to dry out during the summer to make sure that we’re on top form to do it all again from December.
Thanks for reading and have a great summer! :O)
Friday 16th April - final words from James
It's been a bit of a strange one this week. Mixed weather has brought mixed feelings. On Tuesday I overheard a friend of mine complaining outside Bar Robinson that it was too cold during apres ski to sit out on the terrace and drink.
“It's freezing!” he moaned “This isn't April! Why's it so cold?”
“How was the hill?” I asked.
“Amazing!! The snow was really firm this morning. Proper corduroy.” Came the answer.
So it's not all bad.
Up on the hill the snow depths are still more than we need or expect for this time of year and at this rate we'll still be skiing in August. This has meant that the usual April alfresco Apres ski has taken a bit of a hit. The long, lazy afternoons in the sunshine with a cold bottle of rose and some friends for company have not been as frequent as they might have been but there have still been a few nights out of note this week, including the start of the closing parties.
Closing parties are another cause for mixed emotions. On the one hand they make it very clear to most people that it is time to return to reality. To jobs and commutes, work and responsibility. After five months of living in the mountains it is always sad to give up a lifestyle where your biggest concerns are snow depths and freezing levels. Back in the UK you are unlikely to find anyone who is prepared to get dressed up as a wolf and go out with you on a Tuesday night because it's “Chalet girls night off”.
On the other hand closing parties are always great fun and a great way to thank the bar staff in the various establishments for looking after you so well all winter, usually by drinking your own body weight in Jagermeister.
Last night was the closing party of Cafe Chaud. Their usual drum 'n bass Thursday was in full effect and by the end of the night no one wanted to leave. “One more song, one more song!” was the chant that went up when the DJ finished and when he finally conceded and played one last track everyone went mental. A fitting end to five months of good nights in one of Morzine's less well known night spots.
The big end of season apres ski party is always the final lunch at Chez Flo in Avoriaz. Whether your enjoying a meal on the terrace are just a drink on the surrounding pistes it is always a big event and a great final get together. If you want a table then book now as they full up fast but if you just want a drink with some friends and then an interesting ride home down to Prodains then we'll see you at the top of the Prodains bubble next Sunday for the last day of the season.
For other closing parties check our what's on calendar.
If you can't make it to these then don't worry, in the interests of journalistic research I'll be there and I'll let you know how they are next week.
Don't forget to keep an eye on the What's On Calendar for a full list of events over the winter months.
You can also find full Bar and Restaurant listings in the Dining and Going Out section of the site. |
