The Morznet.Com Morzine & Les Gets Après Ski Report
| It all started with our Snow Report, now we have employed our own 'Apres-ski Instructor' with the latest round of the the goings on 'off the piste' (or should that be 'on the piste'!) in the resort's bars and clubs, as well as other interesting venues. Events, celebrities, paparazzis, glam, glitter, big nights out and the hangover- we will endeavour to be reporting them here, if we can remember what happened... |

Report by James Fisher | Ski Video Reporter It has been a busy, busy week.
Not only have we survived the huge influx of tourists but we have also had so much on it has been tricky just trying to keep up.
Fireworks displays, torch-lit descents, night skiing, night skating, night sledging, giant karaoke and that was just on the Pleney. There has also been Champions league football and Six Nations rugby in the pubs as well as parties galore in bars and clubs.
A recent discovery on my part was the Coyote bar. I say discovery which is a little misleading. I didn't find this bar, plant a flag and claim her in the name of Queen and country, I merely went for a drink there for the first time recently. It is at the bottom of the steps to the left of The Cavern and it seems that years of Pavlovian style conditioning on air planes has taught me that I can only turn right. Not so this week, I stood tall and proud at the cross roads between Coyote and Cavern and ventured into the unknown to see if it was a first class experience.
It wasn't. But it was a very enjoyable one. Not a bar for those in search of fine wines, complex cocktails and table service but if you want to play pool then you are in luck. Coyote used to be a bowling alley, judging by the floor, and it still retains the feel of a trip to Mega Bowl. The entrance is lined with about six pool tables and further back there are an assortment of arcade games. So far, so.....Byker Grove. But the bar has a dance floor a number of tables and an open plan feel. A definite alternative to the Cavern on a Tuesday.
Looking forward to the weekend and the week ahead there are more events and activities on. Saturday sees the Penguins back on the ice against Epinale tickets are available from the tourist office and the game starts at 8.30.
On Monday there is a party celebrating fifty years since Jean Vaurnet took Gold in the Olympics in Squaw Valley 1960. February 22nd was the day that Vaurnet took to top spot on the podium and Morzine and Avoriaz, who have five locals at the Games, plan to celebrate with a live link to Vancouver where Cyprien Richard, Olivia Bertrand, Yohann Taberlet, Anthony Chalençon and Johann Baisamy are competing.
The Games will also be screened on Tuesday and Wednesday night on the big screen in the centre of town. Cyprien Richard and Olivia Bertrand will be live on the screen from 7pm.
Wednesday has two all day events in the Dance-X contest at Nyon and the Dark Dog Dynastar tour on the Pleney.
Thursdays is all about night skiing and the torch-lit descent from 7pm until 10pm.
There will also be live music and parties in the bars as usual.
Let me know if you find time to do it all!!
Don't forget to keep an eye on the What's On Calendar for a full list of events over the winter months.
You can also find full Bar and Restaurant listings in the Dining and Going Out section of the site. |
